it became in his imagination his impossible, lifelong task, his hard trial, like that of a man he had read about somewhere, whose curse it was to push a boulder up a steep hill, only to have the giant who guarded the hill roll the boulder down again – and so on, forever, throughout eternity.james baldwin, GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN
ic interactions.
this blog is mutuals only. don’t send in memes / write me things if we aren’t mutuals. it makes me very uncomfortable. i don’t do starter calls anymore so! go ahead and continue any memes i’ve answered. discord available upon request.note: august’s mainverse is applicable for any time period. if your muse is, for example, set in the 1970’s or 1990s, i will place our threads in that era!
formatting.
my “aesthetic” is pretty basic. 90x90 icons and the occasional bold or italics. aesthetic =/= your worth in the rp world. 💕 down with icon-less threads too.due to migraines and needing glasses, i tend to avoid certain container themes, links that blend and/or float into the background, excessive spacing between words, sub small writing and the gradient/multi-color text option.
important.
i do tag triggers. subject matter you may find here includes: familial death, grief, homelessness. if you need anything tagged, just let me know! i want my followers to feel safe.
final deets.
stay kind. be cool. any and all forms of bigotry are unwelcome here.
slow reply @ times.
plotting preferred but it’s super lowkey and chill.
icons and graphics are mine.
i love you and hope today’s good to you.
summary.
august was born in atlanta, georgia, to lisa and joseph collins. he doesn’t remember his mother, who left when he was two years old. his dad, a grocery stocker and a freelance artist, raised him on his own. their bond was one full of hugs and laughter and understanding. when school came around, august struggled to fit in. he didn’t talk much and enjoyed his space. over the years, teachers labeled him a troublemaker, problem student, nuisance. he was bullied by classmates and instructors alike.at nine years old, august was pulled from school and his dad began homeschooling him. the freedoms and decreased stresses improved his self-confidence, while their bond was strengthened by a shared love for art. august carried his backpack everywhere, always eager to learn a new lesson from parent and mentor.as they walked home one night, a robber approached them. august’s dad shielded him from the bullets. august was twelve. he’s been on his own ever since, traveling from place to place, trying to survive. his backpack and its cherished treasures are everything he has left of his dad. through a worn notebook, he’ll look through old artwork and i love you messages. just to pretend he’s not gone.

notes.
august is a highly emotional kid full of anxiety, sadness, and compassion. he has the biggest heart but trusts only a select few. he is an orphan, victim of bullying, and lives on the streets. he seeks independence and forges careful bonds.
he is selectively mute. when talking out loud proves too much, he uses sign language or writes in his notebook. also has moments where he does neither, avoiding signed and written conversation entirely.
his experiences, fear of abandonment, nightmares – none of this suddenly goes away because he’s given love and food and a place to sleep. i compare his healing to a road. it’s not a straight, smooth road. rather, healing for him is a road rife with bumps, wrong turns, breaks to rest and refuel.
while soft-hearted, he isn’t a constant ray of sunshine. like anyone, he has bad days. he will run away. he will get into fights and return bruised, beaten, seething. he will snap at others, isolate himself, go silent, and push away those who love him.
he has killed when his own life was in danger. his pocket knife is a survival tool and he rarely, if ever, parts with it.
in any interaction where august stays with your muse, he can’t attend a physical school. he will have to be homeschooled. subject-wise, he would excel in writing, reading, and art. he has dyscalculia, a math disability, that’s gone undiagnosed. he thinks his brain is broken and considers himself lazy and dumb.
